AG Summer Institute Thank You Letter

The Macon County Board of Education allowed us to participate in an AG Summer Institute program. I really had a lot of fun. We really learned a lot. They provided us with jumpdrives, and many supplies. They were very helpful. The jump drives will be very useful to me in the future. I really think that the Board of Education should have this again next summer. This would really help AG kids in the future. They need to keep Ms. Anne Powell and Mr. John DeVille as the instructors for this institute. They have a really good thing going here. They should stick to doing this each and every year. At first I did not want to come, but when I came on the first day, I had a lot of fun. I hope that more students will come to this thing next year. They will have as much fun as I did. Ms. Powell and Mr. DeVille are wonderful teachers. They deserve to be the instructors next year. This was a wonderful experience for me.

Racial Profiling and WW2

From: http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/anseladams/aamsp.html
This image shows three Japanese-Americans at their shack in a Japanese Internment camp.
Racial profiling is the classification of people by their race. Racial profiling is okay in some circumstances. It is okay if we are at war with a country. Racial profiling is not okay when our country is not at war with another country. The United States used racial profiling against the people of Iran and Iraq when it was believed that those two countries worked together in order to destroy the World Trade Center. Many people get really mad when the government or any other person uses racial profiling against them. The United States government really used racial profiling during World War 2. After the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, the United States government sent Japanese-Americans to these Internment camps in the Western United States. The only reason that these Japanese-Americans were sent away to these Internment camps is because they were Japanese. They should not have punished the innocent people. They should have only punished the Japanese military for bombing Pearl Harbor in 1941. In some instances, racial profiling is fair. In some, it is not. I really do not think that the United States government should be using racial profiling. It is making people that racial profiling is being used against very mad. I think that the United States really should quit using racial profiling from now on. It is making other nations mad at us. If the U.S. government continues to use racial profiling, we might be at war with nations besides Iraq. Racial profiling is very bad in most circumstances.

Slave Density in North Carolina

In the map of WNC, Rutherford County had the highest slave density. Madison County had the lowest slave density. In the map of Eastern North Carolina, Wake County had a slave density of 39.5 slaves. Franklin County had a slave density of 52.2 slaves. The main geographical difference between these two different sections of the state is the mountains. In WNC, there are a great number of mountains. In Eastern North Carolina, there are no mountains whatsoever. Slave plantations were mostly built in Eastern North Carolina, where many crops(like rice) were grown and cultivated by the slaves.
